Turning Recycling into Community Impact in PoCo

Turning Everyday Recycling into Community Impact

In celebration of Earth Month 2026, HSR Zero Waste and HSR Services are collaborating to launch our first community recycling and donation drive in Port Coquitlam. This event is designed to demonstrate how everyday materials can be transformed into measurable environmental and social impact.

Taking place at the HSR facility, this initiative invites the community to drop off common recyclable materials while contributing to a meaningful local cause.

From Recycling to Community Benefit

The initiative goes beyond traditional recycling. By collecting commonly discarded materials including batteries, light bulbs, scrap metal, and small electronics, this program connects responsible waste management with direct community support.

All materials collected will be tracked and quantified to create a transparent and measurable outcome.

Materials Accepted

Participants are encouraged to bring:

  • Batteries
  • Light bulbs
  • Scrap metal
  • Non-working small appliances and electronics

These materials are often difficult to manage through conventional disposal channels and benefit from proper recycling systems.

Please note: Items listed above can be dropped off free of charge as part of this event. Additional materials outside of this list may be subject to service fees and will not be included in the donation program.

How Impact Is Measured

All materials collected during the event will be:

  • Sorted and processed at the HSR Services facility
  • Recorded to track total diversion
  • Processed through responsible recycling channels

Based on the total amount collected, HSR will convert this into a donation to the Port Coquitlam Community Foundation. This ensures that environmental action directly contributes to local communities.

Building a Community-Based Circular Model

This initiative reflects a broader approach to zero waste:

  • Reducing landfill waste
  • Increasing responsible material recovery
  • Reinforcing community engagement
  • Connecting environmental action with social benefit

By participating, residents become part of a localized circular system where materials are diverted, measured, and reinvested into the community.

Community Engagement

This event is open to all members of the community. Residents, families, schools, and local organizations are encouraged to participate by:

  • Dropping off recyclable materials
  • Sharing the initiative within their networks
  • Supporting community-driven environmental action

Join the Initiative

This Earth Month, the Port Coquitlam community is invited to take part in a practical and meaningful action. Participation is simple, and the impact is shared!
