Vancity Team’s Visit to the HSR Center
We were pleased to welcome the team from Vancity’s Shaughnessy Branch for a recent tour of our HSR Reuse and Recycling Centre. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, share knowledge, and offer a closer look at how we support materials diversion and circular solutions in our community.
The visit gave us the chance to walk through our space, highlight our work, and showcase the many behind-the-scenes processes that help us divert materials from landfill every day. The team even received a surprise bonus to meet Happy Stan himself and hear a rare firsthand story about the early days of HSR. To make the day even more special, it also happened to be the birthday of Della, one of our founding members!
“I didn’t realize that you did all this work!”
This was one of our favourite quotes of the day and a great reminder of how much often goes unseen in the world of reuse and recycling.
What Makes HSR Different
Very few people realize, and many are surprised to learn, that our team uses a variety of specialized processes to divert items that would otherwise end up in the landfill. With our expanding focus on reuse, we are now able to divert more materials than ever before. This work helps create a stronger and more sustainable materials economy.
At HSR, we do more than collect materials. We specialize in:
- Sorting
- Classifying
- Redistributing reusable items and recyclable materials into responsible end markets.
Supporting the Journey to Zero Waste
At HSR Zero Waste, we also offer consulting services to help other organizations begin or advance their Zero Waste efforts. Whether you are just getting started or looking to improve current practices, we are here to support your goals.
Thank You, Vancity
Once again, thank you to the Vancity Shaughnessy Branch for spending the day with us. Your curiosity, thoughtful questions, and shared passion for sustainability made it a truly meaningful visit!
We hope you left with a deeper understanding of what we do and a bit of inspiration to take back to your teams.
