“We believe reducing waste is a global responsibility
to protect the environment and all life.”

HSR ZERO WASTE SERVICES

We provide a range of consulting and commercial services and zero waste education and training for facilities to meet their sustainability aspirations and resource management needs. This includes ongoing education about recycling, organics, and specialty waste management programs to tenants and staff of facilities. Some ‌benefits of going zero waste include:

  • Saving money. Unlock revenue streams by diverting recyclables from landfills and save costs through sustainable purchasing, manufacturing, and by making wiser shipping decisions
  • Optimizing operational efficiencies. Set baselines, create benchmarks, and decrease contamination costs by educating tenants and employees
  • Meeting Corporate Sustainability goals. Gain sustainability audit data and earn Zero Waste Canada or other certification to avoid being seen as a greenwashing company. Aligning corporate standards with environmental positioning contributes to reduced employee turnover and higher morale.
  • Visibility as an environmental leader.Communicate your ESG (environmental, social, governance) positioning and reduced carbon footprint, and increase your revenue.

HSR Zero Waste leads by example by establishing zero waste as our own organizational direction. As environmental advocates, we're proud to share the founding principles and policies with the facilities we work with and the communities we serve.

the journey to zero waste process

WHO HSR ZERO WASTE WORKS WITH

Large commercial properties and high-rises, shopping centres and hotels

Property and Operations Managers may only have partial knowledge of recycling programs or systems in place, and what materials are or aren't acceptable. As a result, they don't reach their diversion rates or waste reduction targets. Not achieving sustainability goals can cause your business to fall behind your competitors, become known for greenwashing, or lose public trust. CSR reports are now used on the stock market, so you could lose potential investor funding, too. People want to work for sustainable companies; a loss of confidence in their employer can cause employee attrition.

Benefits of working with HSR Zero Waste:

  • Diversion rate recycling program and zero waste education for tenants
  • Improved experience for and increase in tenants
  • Expanded environmental activities and community contribution
  • Customized ongoing zero waste training and education to tenants and staff
  • Increased employee awareness and compliance with sustainability targets
  • Reaching waste reduction and diversion rate goals
  • Achievement of environmental certifications to avoid being seen as a greenwashing company
  • Ability to bid on RFPs after zero waste audit or consultant recommendations
  • Employee, investor, customer, and community credibility and confidence

Manufacturing / distribution centres and warehouses

Plant managers, warehouse coordinators, and operations, sales and marketing managers can experience contamination at their facilities, which means they lack adoption of the recycling program. This lack of knowledge and failure to achieve the company's sustainability goals can cause the business to appear incapable of doing basic sustainability activities, let alone be an industry leader. They might feel shame or helplessness because they're not doing the right thing, improving environmental performance, attracting customers, or greening their supply chain. They might be afraid of falling behind their competitors or being unable to attract investors or new staff. Low morale can occur if staff aren't engaged in a sustainability program or recognized for their efforts.

Benefits of working with HSR Zero Waste:

  • Materials management, operational efficiencies and consulting experience
  • Understanding of operational limitations and capabilities
  • Implementation of solutions, in addition to consulting
  • Customized ongoing zero waste training and education to tenants and staff that align with both the organization's values and mission and international zero waste policies and principles
  • Education on the facility's diversion rate recycling program
  • Adoption of the company's sustainability goals
  • Ability to showcase the company's sustainability performance
  • Attracting new or better investors
  • Winning more bids
  • Retaining and attracting new talent
  • Be seen as an industry leader vs. “greenwashing”, through Zero Waste Canada or other certifications
  • Cost savings through waste reduction

General Contractors

Contractors responsible for renovations in malls, high-rises, and new builds can lack knowledge of waste diversion, municipal by-laws, and greening their supply chain. They can struggle with RFPs because they’re not reaching their environmental performance goals, and aren’t aware of how to become a sustainable leader in the construction industry. Customers may go elsewhere if contractors can't improve their environmental performance. They can also face penalties from by-law officers, and get frustrated at haulers because of contamination. More by-laws may be implemented in the future to enforce better sustainability practices.

Benefits of working with HSR Zero Waste:

  • Materials management, operational efficiencies and consulting experience
  • Understanding of operational limitations and capabilities
  • Implementation of solutions, in addition to consulting
  • Partnership with other experts in the industry to get multiple perspectives on each project
  • Customized ongoing zero waste training and education that aligns with both the organization&aposs values and mission and international policies and principles
  • Environmental activities in construction projects
  • Awareness of industry needs and requirements (certifications, sustainability efforts)
  • Implementation of sustainability practices that help you win more RFPs and allow you to charge more for services
  • Gaining sustainability/zero waste education mandated by bylaw officers, clients, and investors
  • Implementation of best industry practices and compliance with future by-laws
