Guiding businesses on
their zero waste journey
Why Work Towards Zero Waste?
Zero waste is about much more than just waste. We know it's difficult to explain and defend sustainability activities because most companies invest in short-term results.
HSR Zero Waste can tell you how sustainability ROI can be seen AND measured, what the short- and long-term ways are to assess and justify investments, and how to show the value of sustainability financially.
We provide a range of consulting and commercial services and zero waste education and training for facilities to meet their sustainability aspirations and resource management needs. Some benefits of going zero waste include:
Saving money: Unlock revenue streams by diverting recyclables from landfills and save costs through sustainable purchasing, manufacturing, and by making wiser shipping decisions.
Optimizing operational efficiencies: Set baselines, create benchmarks, and decrease contamination costs by educating tenants and employees.
Meeting Corporate Sustainability goals: Gain sustainability audit data and earn Zero Waste Canada or other certifications to avoid being seen as a greenwashing company. Aligning corporate standards with environmental positioning contributes to reduced employee turnover and higher morale.
Visibility as an environmental leader. Communicate your ESG (environmental, social, governance) positioning and reduced carbon footprint, and increase your revenue.
HSR Zero Waste leads by example by establishing zero waste as our own organizational direction. As environmental advocates, we’re proud to share the founding principles and policies with the facilities we work with and the communities we serve.
Who HSR Zero Waste Works With
We work with large commercial properties, commercial high-rises, shopping centres and malls, hotels, manufacturers, distribution centres, warehouses, general contractors and more. We can work with any business with a facility that wants to work toward zero waste practices.
HSR Zero Waste provides consulting and commercial services for facilities to create policies for reducing waste and re-use, meet their zero waste and resource management needs, and earn Zero Waste Canada or other certifications. With 30 years of experience in the waste management industry, we provide guidance on optimizing and enhancing existing recycling systems to ensure maximum waste diversion from landfills and incinerators.
We also deliver training courses through our partnership with the Zero Waste International Alliance and Zero Waste Canada, the non-profit pioneer in zero waste online educational programming. We can deliver customized zero waste training and education that aligns with your organization’s values and mission, and international policies and principles. For example, we provide ongoing education about recycling, organics, and specialty waste management programs to tenants and staff of facilities (office towers, malls, and manufacturing centres, etc.).
In addition to Zero Waste Canada certification, we can help your organization earn LEED, BOMA, TRUE, and Green Marine certifications.
About HSR Zero Waste
Since offering paper and cardboard recycling in 1988, Happy Stan's Recycling (HSR), founded by Stan Kaminski (“Happy Stan”), has expanded its services to accept over 40 different materials and a range of resource management solutions that encourage the highest and best use of materials.
With resource conservation and environmental protection at the core of HSR's values, we needed a more focused set of services to drive change toward waste reduction rather than simply waste management. In 2017, HSR established a zero waste division now known as
Now a family-run business, HSR and our global network of resource management professionals are committed to practices and policies that help facilities across BC and beyond become environmental advocates and a part of the circular economy.
HSR’s vision is to lead the change by providing education and training on zero waste policies, practices and systems. As thought leaders, we want to steward the creation of a paradigm shift to elevate and shift the resources management industry into a zero waste industry.
“Managing resources for 30 years has taught us many things, but one lesson is clear: we cannot continue treating waste the way we always have. The future we see is clear, and we’re here to help you take the next steps to get there.” —Jamie Kaminski
At HSR, we challenge ourselves and our community, driving change to protect people and our planet. We believe it is a global responsibility to reduce and eliminate waste that is harmful to the environment and all life.
As environmental advocates that promote zero waste practices and services, we help our clients and the community to understand and responsibly manage their reusable and recyclable materials, ensuring a healthy and happy future.
